NEW YORK, September 1, 2016 — Reporters working on stories about the 15-year anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks can contact the (I.I.I.) for information, analysis and interviews on the insurance ramifications of the tragedy, including the Terrorism Risk and ÐÓ°ÉÔ­´´ Act (TRIA).

Total insured losses from the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania, totaled approximately $43.6 billion (in 2015 dollars), including property, life and liability insurance claim costs. It is the second costliest insurance event in U.S. history, second only to Hurricane Katrina. A total of 2,976 people perished in the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, excluding the 19 hijackers.
